Malina Desai is a fine artist currently based in the Sacramento Area. Her work focuses on the concept of “home” as a fluid state that can fluctuate between a physical and a mental place. As a first-generation multicultural American, her work reflects the diaspora of having many cultures, yet not entirely fitting into one. Her work explores American culture through the use of vintage emblems from bottle caps, cars, and commercials to taking cues from American historical propaganda. In a more abstract sense, home is also represented as an emotion through passions such as the simple yet complex beauty of math or the striking and familiar Californian landscape.
